What is an Anaemia Profile Blood test?

Anaemia is a condition that means a deficiency of healthy red blood cells. Anaemia can be temporary or long-term and can range from mild to moderate, depending on haemoglobin.

Why should you get an Anaemia Profile Blood test?

The signs and symptoms of anaemia vary depending on the cause. Depending on the cause of the anaemia, you may have no symptoms. However, the symptoms may be:

  • Fatigue.
  • Weakness.
  • Difficulty breathing.
  • Chest pain.
  • Dizziness or confusion.

Haematocrit (HCT): volume percentage of red blood cells in the blood.

Haemoglobin: carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body.

MCH (Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin): average haemoglobin contained in one of your red blood cells.

MCHC (Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin Concentration): haemoglobin concentration in a given volume of a packed red blood cell.

MCV (Mean Corpuscular Volume): average volume of a red blood corpuscle.

RDW-CV: range of red blood cell volume variations in percentage.

RDW-SD: range of red blood cell volume variations in femtolitre.

Red Cell Count (RBC): how many red blood cells do you have.

White Cell Count (WBC): how many white blood cells do you have.

Basophils: protects your body from bacteria.

Eosinophils: combat parasites and certain infections.

Lymphocytes: fight bacterial and viral infections.

Monocytes: remove dead or damaged cells from your blood.

Neutrophils: fight your body infection.

MPV (Mean Platelet Volume): indicates the production of the fragmented cells of your bone marrow.

Platelet Count: measures how many platelets you have in your blood. They are parts of the blood that help in your blood.

Iron: helps carry oxygen from your lungs to the rest of the body.

CRP HS (C-Reactive Protein High Sensitivity): measures levels of inflammation in your body.

Ferritin: measures the amount of iron your body stores.

How does our Clinic Visit test work?

Please make your appointment online and visit us on-site to have your blood drawn by our Registered Nurse. Please note that you must present your ID for your appointment.

How long do blood test results take?

The target turnaround time for the Anaemia Profile test results is 1 working day. The turnaround time is a guide only and will sometimes depend upon assay run schedules.

Missed appointments or cancellations less than 24 hours prior are not entitled to refunds. Rescheduling is possible but not guaranteed. Please contact the customer service prior to the appointment time to discuss cost and availability options. Please note that we do not draw blood from children under 16 years old.

    • A: You need to take an anaemia test.

    • A: Diet modification, medication or blood transfusion in severe cases. 
  • Q: How long does it take to treat it?
    • A: It takes 1 to 3 months of iron therapy depending on the severity of it and patient compliance.
